WWE Raw Results 2/17/14 Roman Reigns vs. Mark Henry

Before Roman Reigns took on Mark Henry, The Shield showed more signs of dysfunction in an interview with Renee Young backstage.

Dean Ambrose bragged about the beating he gave Henry, and his teammates laughed at him. Still, the trio promised that they were united.

Henry spat that this match was not about titles; it was about putting Reigns into the Hall of Pain.

Once the action began, Henry's size and power gave him the advantage. He pounded Reigns in the corner, but The Shield's powerhouse brought him down with a thunderous Samoan drop.

A Superman punch knocked Henry on his back, and the spear did him in.

Ambrose seemed upset about how easily Reigns won his match and so attacked Henry himself. The Wyatt Family broke up the beating as Bray Wyatt ranted. He looked to intimidate The Shield, but Reigns called the clan down to fight.

Wyatt accepted, and the two trios were soon staring each other down at ringside.

They teased a collision, but The Wyatt Family only walked away.

Result: Reigns wins by pinfall.

WATCH: WWE Raw 2/17/14 (Full Episode)

The match itself was forgettable, short and just a means to make Reigns look strong and increase tension in The Shield. Everything around it was enthralling, though.

The interviews further showcased The Shield's infighting. The post-match staredown was the kind that forces fans to slide to their edge of their seats. The only problem is that it looked exactly like the one from last week's Raw.

Changing it up slightly would have elevated this.

Each team offered WWE's production team a number of choice lines to plug into the promo video for their match. This continues to be the most anticipated bout at Elimination Chamber, largely because of performances like these.

Mark Henry's Current Role as WWE's Best Heel

Mark Henry is heading for a showdown with John Cena at WWE’s Money in the Bank pay-per-view on Sunday July 14.  Though many fans feel that Henry will not win the match and take home the gold, the fact is that as far as strong heel opponents to face Cena, he is among the best.

And for me, Mark Henry is the best.

It is a big statement, I know.  Trust me; I do not make this claim lightly.  In fact, it is one of those bold statements that usually invite not only debate, but also hate.  Intense, unspeakable hate.

Well, maybe not.  I mean, we are all friends here.  Right?

The fact is that no one in WWE is as consistently good at being bad as The World’s Strongest Man. Brock Lesnar is big and violent, Ryback is crazy intense and The Shield is aggressively cunning. However, none of them can make a crowd hate the way Mark Henry can.

Why?  Because the guy just absolutely fits the role perfectly.

Mark knows who he is and what he can do.  He is very comfortable in his own skin and fans can see that.  When he speaks, it feels real.  When he threatens to whoop John Cena, it is very believable.

And when Mark looks into the camera, it’s scary.

Mark is the real deal.  He is the true definition of what a heel is and, at the moment, no one else comes close.  However, Mark has only recently reclaimed this position in my mind because the Superstar who reigned above all other heels has now turned to the light.

CM Punk was the best heel that WWE had seen in a very long time.  From the moment that he attacked The Rock on last year’s Raw 1000 to when Undertaker pinned him at WrestleMania 29, Punk was more controversial and more despised than he had been in years.

And he loved every minute of it.

Like Henry, Punk absolutely excels as a heel.  He totally embraces the role, so much that it is hard to even imagine him as a babyface or remember when he was on that side of the fence.  Punk revelled in the hate that was thrown at him and no one was better at getting heat than he was.

For me, the height of Punk’s heel run was his program with Undertaker.  On the night that Punk dumped the fictitious ashes of Paul Bearer all over Taker’s body and then wiped them on his own face, he absolutely peaked as a heel. When that happened, the only place he could go was back to being a fan favorite because he had done everything he could to heel out.

He had conquered the role and now he has moved on.  And he left Mark Henry to rule as WWE’s No. 1 heel.

So, does that mean that Henry will disrespect a dead manager, or pull a crazy stunt with an urn the way Punk did?  Of course not.

But what Henry can do is physically dominate in the ring and intimidate on the mic.

And speaking of his promo work, has Henry ever sounded any better than he does right now?  Again, Henry is so good at immersing himself into his character that heeling out on the mic has become like second nature to him.  When he growls a threat to John Cena or to anyone else for that matter, there is nothing about his words that feels forced or phony.

Let’s not forget about his “retirement” promo from a few weeks back.  It was perhaps the finest of his career, and I believe that in terms of his accomplishments and overall affect in WWE, it ranks right next to his World Heavyweight Championship victory over Randy Orton back in 2011.

The core values of a heel are very simple.  The fact is he has none.  Basically, he will do whatever is necessary to get what he wants.  And he will use any means at his disposal, including lying to those around him.  He is conniving, heartless and he is supremely self-confident.

And he is hated for it.

This is Mark Henry.  He is as old school as they come and would fit into any era of the business.  He knows what his job is and he does it very well.

Does Mark Henry have the main event record of accomplishment of Brock Lesnar?  No.  Does he have the personality of CM Punk or the 434-day WWE title reign to make him standout from the rest of the locker room?  No.

But when Mark Henry is on his game, he is the most legitimately scary and most effective heel on the entire WWE roster.  And despite whether he wins or loses at Money in the Bank, right now Henry is definitely on his game.  He will continue to intimidate and overpower anyone standing in his way while impressing fans as the company’s current best heel.

After all, that’s what he does.

WWE Return Updates on Mark Henry, Evan Bourne and Christian

The demanding physical nature of the WWE means its injury list always seems stacked with talented guys who are just dying to get back in the ring, where they belong.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, three such wrestlers have been set return dates from injuries that have kept them out for a frustratingly long period of time (h/t Wrestling Inc).

Per the report, "Mark Henry right now is scheduled to return at the end of 2012 after having shoulder surgery a few months back."

The former Olympian Henry was last seen on our screens in mid-April, at which time it was hinted he may have been about to embark on a WWE Title run in a feud with champion CM Punk.

Thankfully, it seems his Hall of Pain is coming to an end sooner rather than later.

For high-flier Evan Bourne, a return has not been scheduled until "early spring," likely keeping him out past the 2013 Royal Rumble, and possibly WrestleMania XXIX too.

Earlier this year, Bourne was suspended for 60 days for his second violation of the company's wellness policy, but compounded matters by breaking his foot in a car crash not long after his suspension had expired.

Also per the report, "Christian is expected back in late November or early December after shoulder surgery."

The underrated favourite of many in the WWE Universe, Christian is in all likelihood a future Hall of Famer for a list of career accomplishments that includes being a two-time former World Heavyweight champion and a nine-time former Tag Team champion.

The 38-year-old was last seen in an episode of Smackdown in September this year with his arm in a sling.

The report also mentions that "Hunico is scheduled to return at the end of January 2013 after surgery for a torn ACL."

With some big names currently on the sidelines for the WWE, here's hoping they all make a speedy recovery.

Mark Henry Update his Status

It has been a few weeks since we heard anything about Mark Henry after he underwent surgery to repair some lingering injuries. He has provided a minor update on his condition, using his Twitter account to deliver the news.
Question on Everybody's Mind: Will Henry be back and better than ever?

Our Take: It would be hard for Henry to top his run last summer, as he won his first world championship and actually turned into a slight ratings draw for SmackDown. He had everything working for him then. That likely won't be the case when he comes back.

Henry's run got cut off in a hurry because he got hurt. Things were compounded by the fact that WWE kept bringing him back before he was ready, making it impossible for him to find his mojo from 2011.

Mark Henry to go under the knife

Mark Henry is one of the most fragile wrestlers in recent WWE history, so his announcement that he would be undergoing surgery should come as no surprise. He does vow to return when healthy.

Question on Everybody's Mind: What will Henry be when he returns?

Our Take: He will likely revert back to being what he was before the end of last year—a part-time performer who beats some jobbers and works on the undercard of pay-per-views. He is too much of a health risk to trust in a big spot.

Henry may not have been anyone's favorite worker, but last year WWE finally found an angle that worked for him and he was actually interesting for the first time in his career. One big reason it worked is because there was a plan and no one cut it off before it had a chance to get over. It's amazing how that works.

Survivor Series 2011 : World Heavyweight Champion Mark Henry vs. Big Show

At Survivor Series, World Heavyweight Champion Mark Henry will with a fresh spin bolt horns with Big Show for the World Title. Be that as it may, if or not their “monster” competition is too huge to be held in the squared loop remains to be viewed.

The final time the several goliath contestants squared off at Vengeance (WATCH), they inspired historians to earn their keep – truly giving way the ring with a weighty superplex that alternate both their compelling hatred for one another and the World Title concern unresolved.

Five days later, The World's Strongest Man come back to SmackDown to proclaim that he could not give his vast rival a rematch. In any case, accompanying a touchy squabble one week later, SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long chose that an additional epic crash at WWE's second longest-running pay-see was undeniably important.

All the more before he caught the World Heavyweight Championship from Randy Orton at Night of Champions, Mark Henry's uncontrollable lash out touched off a vicious tirade of unadulterated devastation, in which he destroyed every person in his way.

Notwithstanding, that everything altered with the reemergence of Big Show. Actually months following being sent to Henry's Hall of Pain, the furious World's Largest Athlete stormed over into movement, chokeslaming the World Heavyweight Champion through a table.

In the past, Survivor Series has demonstrated absolutely lucrative for Big Show where World Titles are concerned. At Survivor Series '99, he caught his first WWE Championship by neutralizing both Triple H and The Rock. Several years later, he overcame Brock Lesnar to guarantee the WWE Title onto every part of again.

In spite of his awesome record, there is no denying that Mark Henry held up 15 years to scope the top of the WWE mountain and should not be thumped off quite effectively – even if the mountain pulverizes beneath his feet.

Which of WWE's occupant titans will rise from the gore with the World Heavyweight Title in their goliath handle?

Is The Undertaker only man who can end Mark Henry’s wrath of destruction on SmackDown

There is only one man who can possibly put an end to Mark Henry’s current wrath of destruction—the greatest wrestler ever, Undertaker.

WWE is doing just about everything in their power to make sure Henry appears as a dominant and intriguing threat in the WWE. He has been all over Smackdown promotions as the main attraction for the show, above Christian and Randy Orton, as difficult as that may be to comprehend. He effectively sidelined Big Show and Kane, the two reigning behemoths of the WWE Universe, and is currently working on WWE’s next anti-hero in Sheamus.

After SummerSlam, what else is left for Henry? A World Heavyweight Championship program? I don’t think so, nobody wants to see Henry in the Championship picture. More importantly, there is still too much untapped potential in the Christian-Orton feud.

Due to the lack of super heavyweights on the current roster, the only man fitting to engage Henry is a returning Undertaker. He returned last time to RAW for WrestleMania, but Undertaker has always been a staple of the Smackdown brand. Considering the lack of superstar talent on the roster, Smackdown is in need of an Undertaker-type spark more than ever.

These two have performed well together in the past, mainly because Undertaker can work with anybody and make them look amazing due to his aura and in-ring abilities. We all remember their great WrestleMania casket match, but this time they could certainly top that feud.

Henry has never been more entertaining than he is right now. He is beginning to reach his peak as there is nobody left on the roster to present a threat to his wrath of destruction after Sheamus. This would be the perfect way to reintroduce Undertaker to the fans as the only man who can put an end to Henry’s current mission. WWE needs Undertaker to return as soon as possible given the massive void on the Smackdown roster and this would be the perfect way to keep Henry in the spotlight.

WWE SummerSlam 2011 Predictions

all photos are taken from wwe.com

The biggest party of the summer—SummerSlam—is only six days away.

This year's event will be the 24th annual SummerSlam. WrestleMania is undoubtedly the top PPV of the year for WWE, and the Royal Rumble has a great gimmick draw to it.

But SummerSlam has a rich history of its own.

This year, the WWE will add to the history of SummerSlam with some good matches, highlighted by the John Cena/CM Punk angle.

Who do I think will win this match? I will give my predictions for that match as well as all the other matches with this slideshow.

There are four matches advertised for the event. They are:

John Cena (c) vs. CM Punk (c)—winner is the Undisputed WWE Champion

Christian (c) vs. Randy Orton World Heavyweight Championship match/No Holds Barred

Sheamus vs. Mark Henry

Kelly Kelly (c) vs. Beth Phoenix Divas Championship match

I would expect the WWE to give Dolph Ziggler an opponent for his U.S. Title at SummerSlam.

I also expect Ezekiel Jackson to take on Cody Rhodes for the Intercontinental Championship at the event.

Divas Championship Kelly Kelly (c) vs. Beth Phoenix
Beth Phoenix became the No.1 contender this past Monday night Raw by winning a diva battle royal.

After the match, Kelly went into the ring to congratulate Beth, but the "Glamazon" had none of that.

Beth assaulted Kelly and claimed that the days of the perky blonde bimbo in the WWE are over.

On Smackdown, Natalya followed suit and did the exact same thing, only it was to A.J. (Kelly Kelly 2.0).

The WWE seems to be pushing their two biggest and strongest divas into power heel roles. One that will see them take over the divas division.

READ : WHY BETH PHOENIX CAN DEFEAT KELLY KELLY

This is most likely being done so that Kharma can return and destroy them.

Since the WWE is pushing the power divas, I see Beth going over in this one.

Winner and new Divas Champion, Beth Phoenix.

Sheamus vs. Mark Henry
Mark Henry has been on a path of destruction on Smackdown.

Henry has taken out the Big Show, Kane and Vladimir Kozlov. Henry issued an open challenge to any superstar who thought they could take him on.

Sheamus took on the challenge and has gone toe to toe with Mark since then.

The WWE has built up Sheamus as a power face and even let him destroy their "big man" Khali.

Sheamus defeats Mark Henry, but I think their rivalry continues.

World Heavyweight Championship: Christian (c) vs. Randy Orton No Holds Barred
Boy has this rivalry been going on for a long time.

Christian finally defeated Orton at MITB to win the WHC, but it wasn't without a predictable finish.

Orton was disqualified and Christian won via the terms of the match. Christian became the first in history to win the WHC via DQ.

This match could go either way.

I would like to see Christian win so that the WHC doesn't get devalued any more than it already has been.

But, can the WWE go against Randy Orton? Orton lost cleanly on Smackdown, which is not a good sign for Christian. Orton losing twice in three weeks? Unheard of.

Then again, this Christian vs. Randy Orton rivalry has gone on for a very, very long time, and I don't no how much more the WWE could add to it to keep it exciting.

Winner and still World Heavyweight Champion, Christian.

WWE Championship Match: John Cena (c) vs. CM Punk (c)
The history of this match is great.

CM Punk challenges John Cena for the WWE Championship in his hometown of Chicago.

Punk wins and quits the WWE, leaving with the WWE Championship.

The WWE then creates a new belt, which John Cena eventually wins.

Now Punk is the WWE champion and so is John Cena. The winner of this match will be the Undisputed WWE Champion.

I can see this match going either way, really.

Can John "Superman" Cena lose at two straight pay-per-views? Cena could win and add to his resume, but what would the WWE gain out of it?

If CM Punk wins, on the other hand, the WWE adds to Punk's fire and fuels the fans' appetite for anything and everything CM Punk-related.

The feud will continue, and maybe Triple H will become more involved in an angle with Punk.

If the WWE wants to make the most money and make the fans happy, then CM Punk needs to win at SummerSlam.

There is one more possibility that I know will not happen.

The WWE has the perfect chance to turn Cena heel at SummerSlam.

John Cena defeating the biggest fan favorite since Stone Cold? That would give Cena so much heat and fuel this rivalry for a very long time.

Add Triple H's involvement, and you have one interesting story line.

But enough of the fantasy land dreams. It is time for my prediction.

Considering everything that I know about this rivalry and the WWE, I have to give CM Punk an edge here.

CM Punk wins and is the Undisputed WWE Champion.

Recap
So far, only four matches have been advertised for this PPV. But I wouldn't be surprised if at least two more matches are added this week—either a tag team title match, a U.S. title match, or Cody Rhodes vs. Ezekiel Jackson for the Intercontinental Championship.

Of the advertised matches, here is who I have winning:

Beth Phoenix defeats Kelly Kelly and wins the Divas Championship.

Sheamus defeats Mark Henry.

Christian defeats Randy Orton and retains his World Heavyweight Championship.

CM Punk defeats John Cena and is the Undisputed WWE Champion.

Notes
John Cena and Randy Orton both lose at a WWE PPV?

Hard to believe, but it makes the most sense this time around. Then again, when does the WWE ever make sense of anything?

Sheamus and Mark Henry will continue their feud after their match, eventually leading to Sheamus' main event push.

Beth wins and starts a "diva uprising" among the "bigger, stronger and tougher" divas.

This is all done so Kharma can return as either a face and destroy them all or as a heel and join them, only to turn on them.

WWE SmackDown results July 22, 2011

Randy Orton def. Kane in a Street Fight

In an intense match of swinging kendo sticks, collapsing announce tables, weaponized steel steps and a merciless ring post, former World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton ultimately reigned supreme over Kane. When The Devil’s Favorite Demon attempted to finish WWE’s Apex Predator off with a tombstone onto a steel chair, Orton escaped – driving his monstrous prey into the waiting steel implement with an RKO for the victory.

Following the match, the two tough-as-nails warriors shook hands in a grand moment of mutual respect. However, once The Viper left, the infuriated Mark Henry entered the arena. Taking down The Big Red Monster with the World’s Strongest Slam, the enraged Superstar chose to take his attack to the next level. Trapping Kane’s already injured leg in the steel chair, The World’s Strongest Man crashed down upon it from the ropes – just as he did to Big Show at Money in the Bank five days before.

Sheamus vs. Wade Barrett ended in a Double Count-out
When a wild brawl between Sheamus and Wade Barrett overtook their match, the referee was forced to count-out both competitors. Afterward, Barrett hurled his distracted opponent into the ring post. But, when he tried to follow-up his assault up with Wasteland, The Celtic Warrior broke loose, flooring him with a devastating Brogue Kick.

Daniel Bryan def. Heath Slater
Heath Slater may have walked into Minneapolis confident enough to call Mr. Money in the Bank Daniel Bryan a “loser” before their match. But, it was The One Man Southern Rock Band who was destined to walk out defeated, tapping out to Daniel Bryan’s unique display of submission excellence.

Daniel Bryan made a startling WrestleMania proclamation
Dismissing Michael Cole’s criticism, Daniel Bryan continued to show the same heroic determination that earned him the SmackDown Money in the Bank Ladder Match victory five days earlier. Rather than choosing to keep the moment he will cash in his title opportunity under wraps, the determined Bryan revealed that he will do it in the main event at WrestleMania on April 1, 2012 in Miami.

World Heavyweight Champion Christian def. Intercontinental Champion Ezekiel Jackson in a Non-Title Match
Just five days after winning his second World Heavyweight Championship from Randy Orton in a barrage of controversy, Christian triumphed over Ezekiel Jackson, slamming The Personification of Domination into the ring post before executing the Killswitch for the three-count.

Randy Orton had “unfinished business” with World Heavyweight Champion Christian
After losing his World Heavyweight Title to Christian by disqualification at Money in the Bank, the irate Viper called-out the new champion and demanded his rematch. Order quickly began to break down, prompting SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long to step in. Teddy reminded Orton that he was already signed to face Kane in a Street Fight and, therefore, could not challenge his adversary. Instead, the GM decided to put Christian into a match with Intercontinental Champion Ezekiel Jackson.

World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton vs. Christian at WWE Over the Limit 2011

Presuming there's anyone who merits a rematch in WWE, it's Christian.

After a 17-year life history, Captain Charisma eventually accomplished a lifelong ambition by gaining the World Heavyweight Championship at Extreme Rules. But, that dream would certainly soon become a nightmare.

Part 2

In an sensational conclusion served by SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long and the WWE Universe Christian encountered himself representing his title up against Randy Orton just days after Extreme Rules. And with one well timed RKO, The Viper wrested the title from Christian.

Watch: SmackDown! May/6/2011 - Christian vs. Randy Orton - World Heavyweight Championship Match.
Eventhough noticeably shaken by the loss, Christian rapidly bounced.

The following week on SmackDown, Christian had been full of confidence, announcing he surely could pound Orton when hes at 100 percent. And then thereon exact same night, in an unbelievable tag team round, he teamed up with Orton up against Sheamus & Mark Henry. Using the Killswitch, Christian acquired the triumph and perhaps the momentum he necessitates to beat Orton at WWE Over the Limit.

Would Christian be able to discover a way to retake what he's forever dreamed about? Or, will WWEs Apex Predator demonstrate once again why he is an eight-time World Champion who recognizes the actions it takes to gain the win.
