- As of now, there are no plans for Kurt Angle to return to WWE, despite what he's saying.

- The Observer notes that WWE is now more open to bringing Matt Riddle in.

- TNA is trying to sign Matt Hardy, Jeff Hardy, and Drew Galloway to new deals.

- Apparently there are some wrestlers in Lucha Underground who are seeing about getting out of their contracts so they can work elsewhere and there is a lot of internal frustration with the state of the company, according to the Observer.

Jeff Hardy's Willow Character Is Being Set Up to Fail

Jeff Hardy made his return to TNA Wrestling in triumphant fashion. Sorry, my mistake; "Willow" made his TNA debut in triumphant fashion.

Hardy returned as the Willow character and joined MVP’s team in the Lethal Lockdown match. He helped MVP and the American Wolves defeat Team Dixie. They wrestled control of TNA operations away from TNA owner Dixie Carter.

Willow made his Impact debut on March 13, getting disqualified in a match against Rockstar Spud. He whacked Spud with an umbrella while entangling Spud’s legs on the top turnbuckle in the tree of woe.

Yes, you read that right. Willow hit Spud with an umbrella and got himself disqualified.

Let’s analyze this scenario. Hardy, as the Willow character, made his debut on free television against Rockstar Spud. A former TNA champion appeared in a match against Rockstar Spud. In my opinion, Spud hasn’t shown enough to belong in that ring. Willow also gave the referee a Twist of Fate and then assaulted Spud some more.



Willow’s appearance was strange, bizarre and outlandish.  He sauntered down the ramp toward the ring in a black coat and demonic mask while twirling a black-and-white umbrella.

When he took off the coat, it was just Jeff Hardy in a mask flaunting a mean streak.

Jeff Hardy’s Willow character is being set up to fail.

Don’t blame Spud; he’s just doing the job conceived by the TNA creative team. If anyone’s to blame, it’s Hardy himself.

Hardy had a great opportunity to completely reinvent himself by his look, but he failed.

Compare his reimagining to Mick Foley’s WWE debut in 1996. Foley took a character in Mankind and made it his own. He even went from a psychopathic persona to a lovable underdog. This was the same man who became a hardcore legend as Cactus Jack all over the world.

Keep in mind that it took time for Foley to win the fans over. It took years of quality promos and matches. Hardy, however, isn’t known for great promos.

Hardy’s Willow character could suffer the same fate as the persona changes of Samoa Joe and AJ Styles.

Joe was repackaged as the leader of the “Nation of Violence,” a character that lasted two months before Joe enrolled in the Main Event Mafia.

Styles also underwent a character change before returning to his old ways, a storyline that ran for only six months.

Maybe the third attempt is the charm for TNA when it comes to repackaging its wrestlers. Maybe it has found Hardy’s niche and can garner more intrigue from the fans.

Hardy’s initial transformation reminds me of the Undertaker's biker character, a gimmick which debuted in 2000. The Undertaker made it work by mostly being himself but slowly changing his appearance. His biker persona lasted more than three years.

Jeff Hardy is no Undertaker or Mick Foley, nor should he be. Hardy needs to carve his own path to make Willow work.

Frankly, with TNA’s track record, expect the Willow character to have a shelf life of three months.

WWE Classic : Analyzing CM Punk vs. Jeff Hardy at Night of Champions 2009

It's hard to believe that it has been four years since Jeff Hardy left WWE, only to appear in TNA a short time later. In 2009, Jeff Hardy and CM Punk had one of the best feuds in WWE, and their match at Night of Champions was one of the bright spots in that feud.

This program practically wrote itself, and when you take into account that Hardy was at the height of his popularity in WWE, and CM Punk was beginning to cement himself as a top guy, you have a feud that sells a lot of tickets.

On one side of the ring you had Jeff Hardy, a man who had well-documented issues with alcohol and substance abuse outside the ring. On the other side of the ring you had CM Punk, a man who took great pride in living a straight-edge lifestyle.

Other than the obvious built-in storylines, the fact that the straight-edge guy was the heel in the equation made things that much more interesting.



Punk pulled off the gimmick well, claiming that his lifestyle made him better than everyone else, but it was the fact that he never said anything that wasn't true that sold the heel turn.

This feud began when Punk cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase on Jeff Hardy at Extreme Rules, just moments after Hardy had defeated Edge in a brutal ladder match to win the title in the first place.

The move instantly made Punk a heel in many fan's eyes. He didn't do anything anyone else hadn't done before, including Punk himself the year before, but fans of Hardy took it as a personal shot.

Edge, Hardy and Punk had a triple threat match two weeks later to make good on the rematch clauses for both Hardy and Edge, which Punk won to retain his title.

Hardy would again face Punk for the title at The Bash, but Punk getting himself disqualified caused Hardy to leave without a title once again.



The following month at Night of Champions, Hardy was given one more shot to regain his title from Punk, and both men made sure the fans got their moneys worth by putting on a great show.

The match saw both men looking like they would win at several different points, but they would always kick out or find a way to counter the other.

Punk dug deep in his bag of tricks for this match, pulling out a Dragon Sleeper and a Bow-and-Arrow submission to throw some variety into his routine for the night.

Hardy ran his usual risk-taking style throughout the match, missing more big spots throughout the match than connecting.



Both men kicked out of each other's finishing moves at least once, but it was Hardy who scored the win with his third attempt at a Swanton Bomb. The crowd popped huge for the Charismatic Enigma, and Hardy righted what he saw as a wrong from Extreme Rules.

This was a great match in the series these two had over the World title in 2009, but it also helped tell a story. Hardy was the guy who had worked so hard for so many years to get to the top, and he had it ripped away from him by a guy with a briefcase.

Night of Champions was when Hardy would finally regain his lost World title after a series of failed attempts. It was a great night for fans of Hardy, but unfortunately he was sent packing by Punk just two months later in a match where Hardy's WWE career was on the line.

Hopefully Hardy returns to WWE while he is still able to do some flying so he can rekindle this feud, because this match definitely earned the title of "WWE Classic."

Why a Potential Hardy Boyz Return Would Be Bad for Both Sides

Neither Jeff nor Matt Hardy has been part of the WWE for the past few years, but many fans of the product have eagerly awaited their return. Rumors are now floating around regarding a possible Hardy Boyz reunion in WWE in the near future; however, it wouldn't be worth the trouble for either party.

According to 411mania.com, during a recent interview with Passing The Torch Radio, Matt Hardy said that it is "very likely" that we'll see the Hardy Boyz in WWE in 2013. With Matt currently doing work for ROH, Extreme Rising and other indy promotions, and Jeff's TNA contract set to expire in February, it's obviously a possibility.

I certainly wouldn't blame the Hardys if they wanted to come back for one more run in the WWE. Neither of them left the company on particularly good terms, so they probably feel like they have some unfinished business. On top of that, the WWE is the pinnacle of professional wrestling, so there is plenty of notoriety and, perhaps most importantly, money that goes along with it.



The renewed partnership would also make sense for Vince McMahon.

McMahon has never been shy about bringing in guys that he thought would be beneficial to the product, even if they had issues in the past. He brought The Ultimate Warrior back into the fold on a couple occasions and he even contracted the man who tried to put him out of business in the form of Eric Bischoff.

The Hardy Boyz have drawn money in the past for Vince, particularly Jeff, so re-signing them is a move that McMahon would have to consider. It has obvious positives, as the Hardys would get great reactions from the crowd, move merchandise and further strengthen the WWE's burgeoning tag-team division should they be used as a tandem.

Professional wrestling isn't always about the business side of things, however.

After numerous issues with substance abuse, both Jeff and Matt appear to be on the straight and narrow path. Looks can be deceiving, though, and you never know when past demons might resurface. Since Jeff and Matt have light travel schedules at the moment, however, the temptations probably aren't present as often.

Working for the WWE is a completely different animal, and The Hardy Boyz would have to be on the road constantly if they signed full-time contracts. That could take a toll on them both physically and emotionally and it would likely increase the chances of a relapse of some kind.

The Hardys seem to have stabilized their lives, so there would be inherent risk involved with making such a sweeping change.

Also, the Hardys proved that they weren't necessarily the most reliable guys during their last run in WWE.

Jeff got into some drug issues that necessitated his release, while Matt essentially forced his way out of the company by no-showing some events. There is nothing that McMahon hates more than a no-show because it robs the fans of something they were promised, and The Hardy Boyz are notorious for doing it.

Even as recently as a year ago, Jeff and Matt had some major issues in TNA. Matt was ultimately released due to a number of run-ins with the law, while Jeff was kept off television for an extended period of time so he could sort his life out. Things are better for both of them now, but I would have a very hard time putting faith in them if I were Vince.

With all of that said, the potential for a high-impact return is incredibly enticing. If Jeff declines to re-sign with TNA before February, it would make both him and Matt available for WrestleMania. Perhaps a Tag-Team Turmoil match could be booked with the Hardys entering last, much to the surprise of everyone, and winning the Tag Team Championships.

The pop would be massive, the shock factor would be immense and having one of the greatest tag teams of all time win the titles on the grandest stage of them all would most definitely help the division reach the next level.

As much as I like to believe that things would go that smoothly and perfectly, McMahon needs to look at the big picture and realize that the risks outweigh the potential rewards.

In all likelihood, we will see The Hardy Boyz back in a WWE ring one day. The WWE is best off waiting a few years until Jeff and Matt prove they are truly reformed, though. Down the line, I would love to see them come back in a part-time capacity of some kind, provided their lives are in order, but now simply isn't the time to make it happen.

Hardy Boys Reunion 'Very Likely' in the Near Future

In a recent interview conducted with Matt Hardy by Passing the Torch Radio, Hardy commented on the possibility of the Hardy Boys making an appearance in the WWE next year, reuniting as a tag team.

Simply put, his answer was—"Very likely" (h/t Wrestling Inc).

His reasoning was due to him being a free agent, currently working in the independent scene and occasionally for Ring of Honor, and Jeff Hardy's TNA contract expiring this February.

While this very well could happen, it may just be wishful thinking on Matt's behalf. Jeff Hardy is the current TNA World Heavyweight Champion and left the WWE primarily due to TNA being a bit more lax with his lifestyle and scheduling (although his lifestyle has vastly improved after his incident with Sting at the TNA Victory Road PPV in March of 2011).

Jeff Hardy isn't even primarily focused on a WWE return, as recent reports state that he will most likely take some time off from wrestling to recover from injuries after his TNA stint is over (h/t Wrestling Inc).

Matt Hardy was not much of a commodity during most of his WWE tenure anyway, as most of his success stemmed from his alliance with his brother.

As a singles competitor, he mildly experienced success, most notably feuding with the Undertaker (early during his first heel run) and MVP, as well as reigns as Cruiserweight, US and ECW Champion.

During the latter parts of his WWE career, Matt was so frustrated with his direction that he made several vlogs about it, eventually being released by the company.

If Matt Hardy is indeed correct about a Hardy Boys return to the WWE as a team in the future, he certainly shouldn't expect the glory days of the duo to be relived. The tag team scene is better than it has been for a number of years, and now—admittedly—is a good time for them to be included.

However, as the premier tag team, they've had their spotlight—now it's time for other teams to shine.

Jeff Hardy announces his return

Jeff Hardy announced on his Twitter account that he will be returning to TNA this Thursday in Huntsville, AL.
"Ok it's official...time to go back2work!," wrote Hardy. "I will be in Huntsville,AL this Thursday with ImpactWrestling!!!!"

This comes on the heels of brother Matt Hardy's DWI arrest this past Saturday. We noted earlier that North Carolina state trooper B.J. Smith indicated that Hardy was not drunk, but "appeared to have taken some type of impairing substance" at the time of his crash and subsequent arrest. TMZ.com posted Matt Hardy's mugshot stemming from his arrest, and it seems pretty clear that he was not sober, which you can view by clicking here. Hardy submitted to a blood test, results of which are currently pending.

TNA promptly terminated Matt Hardy's contract following the arrest. He had already been on suspension, reportedly due to tardiness at live events. He had not appeared for the organization since May 30. Hardy is due to appear in court Sept. 28.

Meanwhile, Jeff Hardy has been on suspension with the organization since being unable to perform in the main event of the Victory Road PPV in March. He will be back in a Moore County, North Carolina courtroom on September 8th for charges stemming from a September 2009 arrest. He is charged with the following offenses:

• Conspiracy to traffic opium


• Trafficking in opium by possession


• Possession with intent to sell or deliver a controlled substance


• Felony possession of cocaine


• Felony maintaining a vehicle, dwelling, or place for using controlled substances


• Misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia

Matt Hardy suspended by TNA

It seems that there's more to the tale of Matt Hardy being off of TNA TV. Recently, Matt commented on his absence from TNA by tweeting on his Twitter page that he's likely to have a few weeks off a result of being between dates, having injuries and external issues. However, more particulars have shown up about Matt Hardy that put an interesting 'twist of fate' on his TNA status. According to a Tuesday report by PWInsider.com, Matt was suspended by TNA for showing up late to numerous shows.

Matt conjoins his brother Jeff Hardy on the outs of bounds of TNA as both Hardy brothers have already been officially sent home from the TNA Impact management over the past 3 months. Jeff was sent home in late March due to his drug abuse matters and presenting up to a PPV event severely impaired.

Matt Hardy conjoined TNA in January, 2011 as he made his first appearance on the Genesis PPV (watch now) in a match facing RVD. Matt appeared to have a regenerated love for this business  soon after a long and  unworthy breakup from the WWE. Despite what their critics say, both Hardy brothers still hold a huge fan base and are still very liked in pro-wrestling.

It's disappointing to realize these amazing wrestlers being trapped in more dramatic play than matches. It's unclear to when Jeff will come back a result of his ongoing narcotic case. Throughout my suspension, they tested me two or three times each week. No joke. The testing is very thorough, which is good. Hardy continued with the following: "There's so much stress that goes along with getting suspended, or even knowing that you might get suspended. To me, it's just not worth it. After having a victory over Randy Orton at One Night Stand,Thriple H now have to defend his title at Night of Champions where all the title in WWE is on the line and guess what Thriple H has to defend his title against John Cena.

Both Jeff Hardy and John Cena went out of One Night Stand victories and belived that they should be given a WWE title opportunity against Thriple H at Night of Champions. Mr. McMahon set John and Jeff in a match that they have never been befor which means John Cena vs Jeff Hardy and the winner will face Thriple H at Night Of Champions.

This is John Cena's 4th oppurtunity for the WWE title, Will cena win the title this time.
