Potential Role for John Cena at Hell in a Cell

Big news coming in from the John Cena front, as it appears his recovery may be going slower than anticipated.

According to Dave Meltzer's Wrestling Observer Newsletter available to F4WOnline.com subscribers (via WrestlingInc.com):

The latest word on John Cena's injury is that he's recovering slowly from the elbow surgery. It remains to be seen if Cena will be ready for Hell In a Cell and may end up being a "down to the wire" decision. It was expected that WWE would have a solid answer on Monday's RAW but that's not confirmed.

One idea that was discussed at RAW this past week was to have Cena be the special referee for CM Punk vs. Ryback at Hell In a Cell, if they have to go with Ryback as the challenger.

Keep in mind, currently this is just speculation and nothing is confirmed. However, this could be big news for Ryback as it would mark the biggest match of his career. It also will prove interesting for the WWE as it would be the first match in over a year that Cena doesn't main-event. Overall, if this does happen, it is a smart business decision by the WWE.

Simply put, Cena has wrestled through a lot of injuries in his 10-year career and let's face it, he isn't getting any younger. Not to mention, he has hardly taken any time off for injury related reasons. So, both he and the WWE should be grateful for what they have and not ruin a good thing.

If possible, I feel, the WWE should book a three-way match with Punk, Cena, and Ryback. This would allow Cena to partake in the match, yet not have to work as hard. It would also give the WWE a chance to see if the fans are truly ready for Ryback's presence in the main-event picture.

In the end, whatever happens, this will prove to be an interesting pay-per-view and possibly the turning point that the WWE needs to ensure it's future.
