On the night of The Rock's return to the ring, it will be two tag teams who steal the show at the 2013 Royal Rumble.
The Rock and CM Punk's WWE title match is getting the majority of attention and build going into the pay-per-view. Just behind that is the rivalry between John Cena and Dolph Ziggler.
The WWE Tag Team Title match between Team Hell No and Rhodes Scholars is almost an afterthought at this point. It's a shame because all four competitors in the match can wrestle and are helping what is a bit of a renaissance in the tag team division.
That won't be the case after the Royal Rumble is over. No matter how the biggest matches end, fans are going to be disappointed with the outcomes.
This opens the door for the tag title match to be one of the most enjoyable things on the show.
More than likely, The Rock will beat CM Punk for the WWE Title, thus enraging the fans arguing against Punk ending his 400-plus-day reign as champion against a wrestler who hasn't been in the ring in nine months.
If Punk wins, people will be upset The Rock came back just to job out to an inferior star
In terms of the Royal Rumble match, Cena has to be considered a heavy favorite, thus possibly setting up a rematch of the "Once in a Lifetime" match with The Rock at WrestleMania.
If this were to be the case, it would make the buildup to WrestleMania too predictable and ruin a bit of a spectacle that last year's match had.
The tag title match doesn't have to carry the weight of expectation with it.
Daniel Bryan, Kane, Damien Sandow and Cody Rhodes can just get in the ring and do exactly what they have been in the last few months. There isn't a preconceived demand of what the match must or must not do.
Additionally, there isn't a worry as to how good the match can be.
Few wrestlers in WWE lately have been able to deliver on as much of a consistent basis as these two tag teams. They've been great in backstage segments, interviews and in the ring.
The fans are invested in all four of the wrestlers. All four of them are able to garner a reaction, be it positive or negative, from the audience, so the crowd should be hot during the match.
Unlike some tag teams where the wrestlers are simply two singles wrestlers put together for a short period of time, Team Hell No and Rhodes Scholars feel like genuine partnerships. They stick up for and complement each other in the way that tag teams should.
If there's any doubt as to whether the tag team division has been revived, it will be cast aside at the Royal Rumble.
