Nash vs. Punk and Cena vs. Del Rio are good for WWE

Hello, folks!

In my recent article regarding the direction of CM Punk, some argued that I was too quick to jump to conclusions and that CM Punk and the WWE would be just fine.

I felt, however, a little hesitant. With Del Rio winning the title at SummerSlam, I thought that if the WWE did not hit back with a solid storyline for CM Punk at last night’s show, then all would be lost.

I am happy to now be writing with what can only be described as a cross between relief and satisfaction.

Relief because the WWE creative team have got a direction for everyone involved in the chaotic finale of SummerSlam, and excitement because I can’t wait to see where these new storylines take us.

The first rivalry we were introduced to was what seems to be a blossoming CM Punk/Kevin Nash feud. Kevin Nash was brought in by Triple H to explain his actions to the WWE Universe, and CM Punk took personally offense at the excuse Nash gave due to his history in the Kliq, and the company.

In what was once again an excellent worked shoot, Punk raised the issue that it is no longer 1994, but 2011. Nash responded to these facts, referencing all he has done for the business. This back and forth point-scoring made for a brilliant bit of television and also left the storyline different options—possibly to include Triple H and Stephanie McMahon.

A new McMahon-Helmsley era may be on the horizon, and it could be this feud that allows it to flourish.

The thing that really excited me about this fork in the big feud is that they both have the potential to be great, carrying on the roll the WWE has been on as of late.

Cena did not show up on Raw until the end of the night, when he exploded on Alberto Del Rio, then cut a promo on how “p*ssed off” he was that Alberto cashed in Money in the Bank after arguably one of the greatest matches of the year.

The fact that Cena was so annoyed pretty much secured a Cena/Del Rio feud.

If you are used to reading my Raw/SmackDown reviews, then you will know that I am not the biggest Cena fan. But at a time where the WWE seems to be in a transitional phase, I am beginning to like him as a character a lot more.

Cena being annoyed at Del Rio for cashing in Money in the Bank at the most opportune moment makes him appear as a moralistic person, as his character demands. It also gives Cena an excuse to stay in the title hunt on his very long road to WrestleMania.

If one is looking at this rivalry in terms of Del Rio’s character, then I believe that this will elevate him to that top level.

A feud with Cena puts Del Rio in that spotlight that so very nearly evaded him. Allowing him to work with the top superstar in the industry can only help to shift attention onto the 2011 Royal Rumble winner.

Also, if Del Rio manages to somehow retain his title cleanly to Cena, then it will give him ultimate credibility as a champion.

Though I think being a champion suits Del Rio and his character, I am not fully invested in the idea that he represents the best in the business. A win over Cena would help me come to terms with it, just as his win over Mysterio did last night did.

So with these two rivalries storming ahead, it is looking like Raw will be jam-packed full of action, right up until Night of Champions in October.

A decent development of these two feuds is needed to keep people interested. Even one mistake could send the IWC crashing down from this current state of euphoria.

These two rivalries could help WWE have one of its best years in quite some time.

What do you think? Am I jumping the gun again by suggesting these rivalries are definitely going to happen, or am I spot on with my analysis?

Good or bad, I would like to hear your opinion.
