Seth Rollins Is the Wrong Choice to Leave the Shield for Evolution

It's always been inevitable that The Shield would break up to start Roman Reigns' run as a star singles wrestler.  It was just a question of when and how.  We got the answer last night, as Seth Rollins ambushed both Reigns and Dean Ambrose with a chair, ostensibly to join Evolution.

When a breakup was initially teased in the winter, it looked as if Ambrose was splitting off from the group, leaving Rollins and Reigns as a regular tag team or leading to the end of The Shield.  It wasn't exactly clear how this would happen, and it wasn't really clear who would kick who out and why.

That was dropped for a while when the whole group turned babyface, first halfway and then completely the night after WrestleMania.  It made sense for a number of reasons.  Whatever turn you do would mean more after being dragged out longer. The Shield deserved a big babyface run before splitting.

Perhaps most importantly, whatever turn led to the Reigns run would work better with him as a babyface being turned on rather than him as a heel leaving the group to turn babyface.

Even then, it was hard to figure out what the exact scenario would be or even if it would happen, since The Shield had caught on so well as babyfaces anyway.  It's not like The Shield had to break up. Reigns could become a big star with Rollins and Ambrose as his allies.

If someone was going to turn, it seemed like it would either be Ambrose on his own (again), or Ambrose convincing Rollins (Reigns' primary partner in regular tag team matches) to join him in turning on Reigns.

Instead, Rollins turned on both Ambrose and Reigns last night, and so far, we don't know why.  While Rollins turning on Reigns is probably the best scenario emotionally, I'm not sure this is the best way to do it.  There was no buildup.  Rollins just turned to join two guys he battled for half an hour the night before.

Maybe there's some big brilliant explanation we'll all hear on Raw next week, but I'm not crazy about this so far.  The angle itself was tremendously executed, sure, but right now it's impossible to pin down why it happened.  On top of that, it's not as satisfying, narratively speaking, as all of the alternatives I can think of.

On the bright side, it's officially time to stop worrying about Rollins getting lost in the shuffle now that he's not part of The Shield.  If he's not actually in the Evolution stable proper, he's a top heel with ties to Triple H and Randy Orton.

For him, this is the best thing that can happen.  If Ambrose turned on Rollins and Reigns, Rollins would be Reigns' little buddy, which is a precarious spot.  If Ambrose and Rollins turned together, Rollins would run the risk of being Ambrose's henchman, which has similar pitfalls.

I'm honestly not sure where this is going, so I hope WWE has something clever up its sleeves.

WWE Payback 2014: The Shield and Evolution

After overcoming Evolution in a brutal match that had the crowed shouting "This is awesome" at Extreme Rules (Watch). The Shield will now have another chance to stand toe-to-toe with Triple H, Randy Orton & Batista at WWE Payback in a grand rematch.

Since The Shield defeated Evolution they have been put through a lot of disadvantageous situation again and again. On May 5th edition of Raw, then U.S Champion Ambrose lost his title when he was forced by Triple H to defend the title in a 20-Superstar Battle Royal. The match was won by Sheamus, ending Ambrose's 351 days title reigns. Later that night Evolution attacked The Shield win they were in a intense match against The Wyatt Family.

Triple H says that they know what it takes to win a war. Will the King of Kings, The Viper and The Animal defeat The Hounds of Justice and stand tall this time? Or will the Shield beat the Evolution in their own game and scoring another win.

"Do we look humbled to you?"—Ambrose to Triple H.

"Here in a few seconds, I'm gonna drop this mic and we're coming up that ramp and we're going to beat your asses."—Reigns to Evolution.

Triple H mocked The Shield, and Randy Orton said the trio sparked the inspiration for Evolution's reformation. They showed clips of Evolution's history of beatdowns.

Batista added that The Shield don't know what it got itself into.

That's when "The Hounds of Justice" stormed down to the ring. Evolution slipped away to avoid their seething foes.

Dean Ambrose reminded Triple H why he hired the group to protect Orton. Seth Rollins promised war at Extreme Rules, predicting that Evolution would disband at that show.

Roman Reigns threatened to fight Evolution right now. When he and his teammates charged, a wall of heels came out to protect Triple H and company.



Both teams barked. Both teams looked confident and strong.

Rollins flourished during his airtime. He was the most compelling man on his squad, something that hasn't always been the case.

It's surprising that WWE hasn't announced a stipulation for this bout yet. It appears that this will get more contentious first.

Kudos to the WWE production team. They did a great job with the Evolution highlights, especially in how they had images of Evolution's past mirror its present and vice versa.

Triple H's New Role Demonstrates Evolution of His Character

Mention the name "Triple H," and it will only be a matter of time before someone follows up with the words "bury" and "shovel."

Over the course of his main event career in WWE, The Game gained the reputation of being a master politician, the type of performer who would go out of his way to derail anyone he saw as competition to his spot atop the wrestling world.

Rob Van Dam, Booker T and Kane are prime examples of stars who could and should have knocked Triple H off and ascended to championship glory in the early-2000s, but after wrestling the Cerebral Assassin, they were sent back down the card and took years to recover their heat.

Booker's case was incredibly difficult to explain, as the story had featured racial overtones and was set up to finally crown the former WCW star as the new World Heavyweight champion. Instead, he was beaten cleanly at WrestleMania and would not capture that title for another three years afterward.



Having worked very hard to get where he was, Triple H was overprotective of his spot. He did everything in his power, which was quite significant thanks to his real-life relationship with Stephanie McMahon, to maintain his position at the top of the card. That is no to say he did not deserve it. That is what is so funny about The Game and the reputation he has garnered, and rightfully so.

Triple H is an immensely talented in-ring worker who was good enough to maintain his spot without reverting to political manipulation to keep others down.

The most over heel in the sport for the better part of six years, he was undoubtedly a top star, and no number of losses was going to change that. In reality, all his paranoia accomplished was stunting the growth of the company by derailing potential headlining babyfaces.

Thankfully, the Triple H fans see in 2014 is a wiser, more responsible performer who understands the value of having a new generation of talent ready to ascend to the top of the industry to continue its advancement and prosperity.

At WrestleMania 30, the chief operating officer of WWE did more to put over Daniel Bryan as a legitimate main event star than he has any star of the last decade. He lost to him clean in the center of the ring and then took a definitive beating from him later in the evening during the WWE World Heavyweight Championship main event.



He has also gone out of his way to make The Shield look like a force, taking a massive spear from Roman Reigns and bailing out of the ring before he could fall victim to the triple powerbomb. Sure, he, Randy Orton and Batista reformed Evolution and beat down Reigns, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose on Raw, but it was simply the latest chapter in a story that should end with the three young, breakout stars beating the established main eventers on May 4 at Extreme Rules.

Add to that the fact that WWE is seeing an influx of young talent from NXT, and there is greater evidence than ever that Triple H, a businessman much more than a full-time worker at this point, understands the value of building toward the future. And for WWE, the future is now.

The key will be to make sure he does not overexpose himself as an on-air talent. The minute he begins stealing the spotlight from his peers is the minute he is in danger of falling right back into his past tendencies. That cannot happen because it could very well stunt the growth of the talent he has gone out of his way to position favorably over the last eight months.

His actions have indicated that he will not allow himself to revert back to his old ways. For WWE and the entire wrestling landscape, that is a very good thing.

Triple H's 13 Most Memorable Moments in WWE

Triple H has had a remarkable career in wrestling.

From his 1994 debut in WCW, to his corporate takeover just two weeks ago, Hunter Hearst Helmsley has been a staple of the WWE and one of the most entertaining superstars in history.

Now that he is running the WWEs day-to-day operations it is uncertain whether or not the Game will wrestle again, but it is certain he is going to be in the picture for a long time.

Now that he has made his first return to television since Wrestlemania it seems like a good time to take a look back at the greatest moments of Triple H’s career.

13. Triple H Fires Vince McMahon


If Triple H has a successful run as the chairmen of WWE, this one could end up higher on the list, but for now it sits at #13.

With Vince stepping down, and Triple H taking a non-wrestling, leadership role on television, this could potentially be one of the most important steps of his career.

The Game already has WWE fans speculating on what his new role will be; will he turn heel and take over where Vince left off? Will he be a fair and balanced CEO? Will he feud with CM Punk or John Cena? All of these questions will be answered soon, and they are a lot more fun than trying to guess who the “Anonymous General Manager” is.

12. Triple H Debuts as “Hunter Hearst Helmsley


Not all wrestlers start off with a good gimmick. Stone Cold was The Ringmaster, Kane was a dentist and Triple H was Hunter Hearst Helmsley: a refined gentleman who was determined to bring class and nobility to the wrestling world.

It may not be the greatest highlight of his career, but it got him a foot in the door and a chance to become one of the greatest superstars in WWE.

11. Triple H Wins 1997 King of the Ring
Triple H was originally slated to win the 1996 King of the Ring, but was punished for breaking kayfabe to say goodbye to Kevin Nash and Scott Hall before they departed to WCW.

The Game worked through some bad booking and earned back the push he was getting in 1996.

At the ’97 King of the King tournament, Triple H earned his nickname, the “King of Kings,” when he defeated Mankind in the final round.

10. Triple H vs. Undertaker, Wrestlemania XXVII


Triple H didn’t notch a win in his match against the dead man, but he did help to make the Undertaker’s 19th Wrestlemania victory one for the books.

9. D-Generation X Forms


After Triple H won the King of the Ring tournament, he began to veer away from his aristocratic snob gimmick, and evolved into the character we know today.

He did this with the help of Shawn Michaels, Rick Rude and Chyna.

Although the members of the group changed throughout the years, the idea remained the same; they were a group of envelope pushing, crotch chopping, rule breaking degenerates.

DX was, without a shadow of a doubt, the most entertaining wrestling stable of all time.

8. Triple H Turns on DX


Triple H makes a good face, but he makes an even better heel.

By turning on DX and joining the corporation at Wrestlemania XV, Triple H propelled himself from a mid-card face to a headlining heel.

7. Triple H vs. HBK, SummerSlam 2002


Much like his match against the Undertaker at Wrestlemania, Triple H didn’t get the win at SummerSlam. But, he did put on one of the greatest SummerSlam matches of all time, welcoming his friend-turned-foe back to wrestling after a four year hiatus.

The match was an “Unsanctioned Street Fight” and it was 27 minutes and 19 seconds of merciless, hardcore wrestling.

6. Triple H vs, Cactus Jack, Hell in a Cell


Before WWE started booking “Hell in a Cell” as an annual PPV, it was the most feared, grueling match in all of sports entertainment.

Triple H has been in eight Hell in a Cell matches, but his most memorable one came on  February 27, 2000, at No Way Out.

It took a steel chair, a barb wired 2x4(that was set on fire) and a backdrop through the top of the cell for Triple H to get the win and retain the WWF Championship.

5. Triple H Wins the 2002 Royal Rumble


Triple H entered the 2002 Royal Rumble from the 22nd spot and eliminated Kurt Angle for the win.

The Cerebral Assassin used his guaranteed Wrestlemania match to defeat Chris Jericho for the WWF Undisputed Championship.

4. The Debut of the Sledgehammer


Triple H’s favorite toy: the sledgehammer. The Game has been using the unforgiving hammer since he debuted it in a casket match between Undertaker and The Rock.

Like “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan’s 2x4 and Sting’s baseball bat, the sledgehammer is synonymous with the Cerebral Assassin.

3. Evolution Dominates Armageddon


From 2003 to 2005, Triple H led the very successful “Evolution” stable.  The group consisted of Triple H, Ric Flair, Randy Orton and Batista.

At the height of the their success the group dominated the 2003 Armageddon PPV, winning the Tag Team Championship, the Intercontinental Championship and the World Heavy Weight Championship all in one night.

2. Triple H Wins His First WWF Championship


After aligning himself with the Corporation, Triple H was able to win his first ever WWF Championship against Mankind. Shane McMahon acted as special guest referee.

This win pushed the King of Kings from an Intercontinental contender to a main event champion.

Triple H grabbed the spotlight on March 29, 1999 and he hasn’t let it go since.

1. Triple H Marries Stephanie McMahon


Wrestling fans learned a lot of things when Triple H married Stephanie McMahon. We learned you can get married in Vegas for $40, we learned you should never have a wedding ceremony inside a wrestling ring and we learned marrying the bosses daughter is a very, very strong career move (even if she is unwilling and unconscious).

Triple H fans ignored the troubling statement that he consummated their marriage multiple times and celebrated the devious act of their anti-establishmentarian hero.    

Still, it was this act that would supercharge Triple H’s wrestling career, both in and out of the ring and change the face of the WWE forever.

It was like Thriple H meet his 3 families on Raw's 15th Anniversary celebration.3 famailies were The McMahon Family, Evolution and DX.

The frist reunion was with Mr. McMahon family as he was celebrating with is family and with his bastered child Hornswoggle, The Game Thriple H crashed in and ruined their plans as we know that Mr. McMahon is The Games favoraite passtime in WWE.

Linda McMahon was not present because she has “gastrointestinal problem” Mr. McMahon explained and their was WWE Divas comming one by one in the ring it was really cool,it was fun for the Game and the fans in the arena.

The Secound reunion was with The Game Thripls H old team-mates of Evolution- Triple H, Batista, Flair and Orton which was a bit serious.The Game (Thriple H),The Animal (Batista),Nature Boy (Ric Flair) remaind friendly but The Third Generation Superstar (Randy Orton) was not happy with this reunion, because as we know that Randy Orton was in a match with Ric Flair which includes that if Ric Flair's “win or retire” only for Ric Flair forced by McMahon.

Orton's ego made him go more further at that time he challenged his team-mates of Evolution in a match which includes

Thriple H,Batista,Ric Flair vs Randy Orton,Edge,Umaga.


Randy Orton's team got disqualified which made Thriple H,batista , Ric Flair rejoice.

Hey Thriple H night is not over till now,As we know that it is gonna be Shawn Micheles vs Mr. Kennedy at Armageddon Mr. Kennedy made sure that Shawn will make at Armageddon, but their comes his old DX partner Thriple H.

The Fans in the arena stood in joy for Thriple H and Shawn Micheals.The 11-time World Champion the Game shared many wonderful time with the fans, It was truely a a good night for the Game Thriple H
