Why CM Punk's Title Run Needs to End Soon

Haven’t we been through this already?

It’s hard to tell CM Punk, with the about face he has done since Raw’s 1000th episode, that he is going to lose the WWE Title.

Isn’t that cutting off your nose to spite your face?

Personally, I love the idea of Punk’s new character. The “disrespect” card is played better by the “Voice of the Voiceless” than most in recent memory. Although he is now the major heel in the WWE, there are those who love Punk because of his loner personality and ability to shock us all with how he blames the former stars of the WWE for not paving the way for him to be the star like a John Cena or Mick Foley, who may have really struck a nerve with Punk two weeks ago.

Again, I love the idea.

But now, there is a situation with the WWE that it is trying to address on the fly. The injury to John Cena has put a kink in the plans for Hell in a Cell and, right now, although the WWE is praying to the wrestling gods, there is no real opponent for the current champion.

Maybe the idea of having Punk lose the title may in fact do better to improve not only the television brands, but it also may help promote other big-name superstars.

I love the idea of Punk and Dolph Ziggler wrestling on SmackDown or the idea of champion vs. champion as we saw between The Miz and Sheamus (even with the interference of the Big Show). Those types of moves by the creative team can only make the product better.

Punk has been a champion for over 300 days, which at the time of his victory over Alberto Del Rio was unheard of given the fact the WWE Title had been tossed about like a hot potato. Amid all that was a period where Punk seemed soft and had “sold out” trying to gain fanfare and support in his matches.

Remember also, this was the man who shocked us all with a tirade we all speak about as a game-changer.

Punk’s M.O. used to be that he was angrier and more deliberate as the man chasing the title. And that theory can only make him a better and bigger superstar if he loses the title, puts over another young star and possibly gains it back at another PPV event.

I would love to see someone like Ziggler beat him, still have the Money in the Bank contract and beat Sheamus, thus unifying the two titles. Just a thought there, if anyone from the WWE is listening.

There is plenty of talent on the WWE roster that needs a push or to be featured more. Kofi Kingston, Ziggler, Antonio Cesaro and, yes, even someone like The Miz could all take the title and run. Whether they are faces or heels, which doesn’t seem to matter anymore in the WWE, it will more than anger the current champion.

It will only make him hungrier.

Because of the WWE’s plans being halted for the time being because of Cena’s injury, this is a great time to try something different. And no, I am not talking about a Ryback championship run.

Hopefully, the WWE can see the value in making Punk champion again by taking the strap and placing it on someone else. In the meantime, we will sit and wait and enjoy the run. But we also would like to see someone else get a shot at trying to create some magic.
