Or is that something bad going?
You would be right either way. Team Rhodes Scholars is the best bad duo going in WWE today.
You might even take it one step farther to say they are the best tag team…period.
And that’s why it is only a matter of time before they become World Tag Team Champions. A championship match is inevitable at WWE Royal Rumble 2013 between the Rhodes Scholars and Team Hell No.
That ticket was stamped when Rhodes and Sandow beat Team Hell No at last week's Raw show in Tampa, Fla.
So why have Rhodes and Sandow succeeded where some of the other teams have failed? They know exactly which buttons to push to generate the most heat from the WWE Universe.
Sandow has his “Intellectual Savior of the Masses” gimmick honed so well that you almost believe he really thinks he IS smarter than everyone else. To make things worse, his smugness and high opinion of himself drives the arena crowds into a boo-filled frenzy.
Rhodes has always been a master at generating heel heat, so he provides the perfect complement for Sandow's condescending attitude.
Team Rhodes Scholars takes their act very seriously, and that draws even more ire from the crowds. They do not shout or make up pithy things to say about their opponents or the audience members.
Whether in the ring or on the ramp, Sandow always sounds like he ate Webster's Dictionary for supper and followed it up with an encyclopedia for dessert.
Rhodes and Sandow act like they are doing the audience a favor by allowing the audience to see them work. By acting like they do not care about you, they make you care about them.
Look at the other top heel tag team, the Prime Time Players. Their constant woofing about their opponents and their “Millions of Dollars” dance plays to the crowds to the point that they actually are starting to hear cheers.
No, the Rhodes Scholars come to the ring with strategy and a game plan, not to play and have fun. And even if they are having fun, they certainly are not going to let you see it.
That's not to say that Team Hell No is a slouch. They are the tag team champions after all.
But while they were a comedy act that became a good tag team, the Rhodes Scholars were a good tag team that became a better tag team.
Putting the tag belts on them is the next step toward putting tag team wrestling back into the prominent position it once was. They can build on what Team Hell No has started.
Tag team matches are no longer the bathroom break in a pay-per-view event they once were. People actually are staying in their seats and in front of their TV screens to watch the teams go at it.
And when Team Rhodes Scholars is in the ring, the people are watching a real treat.
It’s no wonder Damien Sandow always says, “You’re welcome.”
