The latest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that the current plan for WrestleMania 29 is a match between The Undertaker and Brock Lesnar.
The match has been on the cards ever since The Undertaker’s “confrontation” with Lesnar at a UFC event some years ago. The Undertaker putting his undefeated WrestleMania streak on the line against Lesnar at WrestleMania would probably be the biggest draw for Taker next year and would have huge interest outside of the WWE’s core fan base. (Especially if Lesnar had been kept strong in his limited one-year deal instead of jobbing out to John Cena in his first and to date, only match!).
Brock Lesnar’s limited contract with WWE runs out at WWE WrestleMania 29 and this would be his last match with the company from his current run. For Taker, we would expect they would drop the dead man gimmick for this match and swap it for a grizzled old veteran, more like the Biker/real life Mark Calloway persona for this match-up.
And more like the persona when Lesnar and Taker had their last feud ten years ago which produced a classic match-up;
The Undertaker vs Brock Lesnar probably means that a re-match between The Rock vs John Cena will likely happen at next year’s event.
Meanwhile Lesnar is expected to wrestle Triple H at a pay-per-view this summer (possibly WWE SummerSlam) and in a match against Randy Orton and potentially CM Punk or The Rock ahead of next year’s WrestleMania 29.
WrestleMania 29 will take place on April 7, 2013 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
