CM Punk claims to be "the best in the world." His claims to be the best wrestler have translated to him being the best in the WWE world.
He said it best during his infamous shoot promo last year. During the promo, he said he was the best in-ring performer, the best mic worker and even the best on commentary.
Can you blame him? In a world where John Cena, the face of the company, has grown stale and boring, CM Punk has jockeyed for position at the top of the company.
Despite being the WWE champion and not getting the main event slot on pay-per-views, Punk consistently gets a better pop from the crowd than most wrestlers, including John Cena.
Why does he get a bigger pop than the face of the company? Well, one reason, in my opinion is that people appreciate the fact that he's one of the best technical wrestlers in the company. Yes, the WWE does in fact have good wrestlers, despite the fact that The Great Khali is still hanging around.
Fans recognize his skills as a professional wrestler. If you don't think that fans can get behind a skilled technician in the ring, just look at Dolph Ziggler the other week. He usually comes out to heat, but at one event (forgot which one), he entered to some applause and cheers. I doubt it's because his "show off" gimmick earned their respect. Ziggler is one of the best workers in the company, which shows why Punk owns the WWE world.
In addition to that, Punk is one of the most entertaining men in the company. His promos are epic, as he drops "pipe bombs," or so he calls it. He's unpredictable on the mic, whether he's clowning management, belittling opponents or just generally selling a storyline. This is another sign that he's a master of his craft.

These pipe bombs that CM Punk drops are the best promos the company has to offer. When he speaks, the people listen intently. This is why he's arguably the best wrestler in the company and the best in the WWE world.
Just look at his work at the announce table. He has done it several times, and it was brilliant work. It is better than hearing Michael Cole butcher the play-by-play that Jim Ross used to make enjoyable. The color commentary that Jerry "The King" Lawler provides sounds like he doesn't want to be there. In all honesty, Lawler was a great heel announcer, as he was not annoying and made humorous commentary.
Before I go completely off track, the point I was making is that Punk may even be the best announcer the company has. Some of the comments he makes are so odd that they are actually funny. In his latest run at the announce table, he said Chris Jericho's jacket looked like the popular 90's toy "Lite Brite," as well as making several comparisons to movies I have never even heard of.
CM Punk is the best wrestler in the WWE. He's better than John Cena, better than Randy Orton, better than Alberto del Rio. He's the best promo cutter, most likely since The Rock was a mainstay in the company (I will not count him during present time, as he was only around for WrestleMania season). He has a future at the announce table, whenever he should stop wrestling.
Yes, CM Punk is the best in the world as he claims. A guy as passionate about the wrestling business as Punk is should be the best at what he does. Paul Heyman was a wrestling genius behind the scenes. CM Punk is the best, most entertaining wrestler in the WWE.
