With a 2-out-of-3 falls match highlighting what should be an absolutely mediocre Extreme Rules card, Daniel Bryan will prove that he is a serious star in the making against Sheamus.
It doesn’t even matter if he wins or loses, Bryan will look strong in a match that has become his specialty.
After getting jobbed to Sheamus on the biggest WWE stage in history at WrestleMania 28, it will be hard for Bryan to overcome that stigma. The WWE may be doing him a favor by playing into his style and expertise and allowing him to have a match that both men will look extremely strong after competing in.
Every 2-out-of-3 falls match that has ever mattered has gone to three falls. That means both men get a chance to win before the eventual winner gets the biggest push. It’s the perfect way to give all the fans what they want and continue a storyline.
Not only does it give the WWE a way to make either man win and make the other look strong, but this will be what Vince McMahon considers his apology for jobbing a fan favorite in 18 seconds.
Newer fans of Daniel Bryan should go back to the archives and look at some of the 2-out-of-3 falls gems Daniel Bryan has put on over the years. The two best that I can remember from his Ring of Honor days were against Paul London and Austin Aries.
That match type allows the wrestlers to each show a wide variety of moves that they may not use that often, something that could open the fans up to a move Bryan used called “Cattle Mutilation”.
My gut says that the WWE has an extended plan to have Sheamus retain the World title, but appease the hardcore fans by giving them 18 minutes of Daniel Bryan wrestling. With that said, the best case scenario is that AJ turns heel to get Bryan to love her again and costs Sheamus the final fall to give the title back to Bryan.
Either way, both men walk away looking as strong as they possibly could.
