WWE Extreme Rules 2012: If CM Punk Loses, How Will Chicago Fans React?

This year's WWE Extreme Rules event takes place in Chicago, the home of WWE Champion CM Punk.

In Chicago, Punk is a beloved hometown hero to many and those fans who support him are always very vocal about their appreciation for the straight-edge superstar.

Even when Punk was playing the heel, he would still find support in the Windy City, and this Sunday's match against Chris Jericho should see him get the lion's share of the crowd support yet again.

The big question on my mind is: What will happen if CM Punk loses?

The odds of an all-out riot are slim, but there would definitely be uprising amongst the fans who only want to see Punk beat Jericho and shut him up.

This match has been turned into more than just a simple feud over a title, but rather a personal struggle between two men who hate each other to the core.

Jericho has been spewing truth and lies about Punk's family, which looked to drive Punk to the edge on Monday's Raw, only to have him show that he is just as good at mind games as Jericho.

If Punk were to lose after weeks of being belittled at the hands of Jericho, many fans would be very disappointed. While I am positive there are plenty of people who want to see Jericho as WWE Champion, I do not think it is his time right now.

WWE is cementing Punk as a main-event star, and by defeating Jericho on two consecutive PPVs, he would certainly gain some more credibility in that department.

Even though Brock Lesnar vs John Cena is being billed as the main event, it would be safe to say that most of the Chicago fans are probably looking forward to the WWE Championship match more.

I am one of those people. I am happy to see Brock back in WWE and the attention he brings with him, but the match between Punk and Jericho is likely to steal the show in terms of match quality.

If Punk loses, I can see many fans being upset to the point where they may not give a damn who wins the other matches which will follow.

If WWE is planning on having Punk lose, then the smart thing to do would be to have that match close the show, but we all know Lesnar and Cena will probably be the final match.

I will be in attendance on Sunday and am looking forward to how the crowd is going to react to whatever happens, because the Chicago crowds always feel electric when Punk is on the card.

What do you think the reaction from the crowd will be like if Punk loses the WWE Championship to Jericho?
