While that will largely be the case, the WWE decided to spice things up a bit by bringing back Brock Lesnar and having him face John Cena in a huge match at the pay-per-view.
Instantly, this “B-level” PPV just got a lot more intriguing with a clash between two of the biggest stars in the business. Given that most matches at Extreme Rules feature some sort of gimmick, though, many are expecting a stipulation to be added to Lesnar vs. Cena.
But will that actually happen? Let’s find out.
From PWInsider.com (via WrestleZone.com):
At this point, PWInsider.com is reporting that WWE does not intend to add a stipulation to the Brock Lesnar vs John Cena match at the Extreme Rules PPV.
I like it.
While I’m a fan of gimmick matches, I only want to see them when they’re necessary, and given that this is the first of what should be multiple matches in this Lesnar vs. Cena feud, I don’t think a gimmick is necessary here.
Extreme Rules is going to be filled with other gimmick matches already, so there’s no need to overload the card with yet another gimmick match.
Sheamus vs. Daniel Bryan will be a Two-Out-of-Three Falls Match, the likely Chris Jericho vs. CM Punk match should feature some type of No DQ gimmick, the same can be said about Randy Orton vs. Kane and I’m sure that Cody Rhodes vs. Big Show match will have some sort of ridiculous stipulation where the loser has to do something embarrassing.
Just make Lesnar vs. Cena what we pay to see: a straight-up wrestling match.
If the situation calls for a gimmick match later in this feud, then have it.
