CM Punk Hits Fan: WWE Issues Statment on Incident

In case you have been living under a rock for the past 18 or so hours, you missed CM Punk hitting a fan at the end of Monday Night Raw.

Some of you may be thinking that this incident was staged, but unfortunately for Punk and the WWE, it wasn't. The company has found itself in some hot water as the mainstream media is picking up this story.

TMZ ran with the story Tuesday afternoon and was able to obtain a comment from the WWE.

The comment states:

A rep for the WWE tells TMZ, "WWE security was unfortunately not in the appropriate place at the time. Given CM Punk's persona as a 'bad guy' fans were naturally heckling him, but unfortunately a few fans began shoving him and one struck him in the kidney and on the back."

The rep adds, "WWE regrets that proper security measures were not in place, and CM Punk apologizes for reacting in the heat of the moment."

I gotta say, after watching the video I could see how Punk would swing back after getting hit in the head.

Sadly, Punk didn't know who struck him and went for the most obvious person standing right behind him. As the video clearly shows, the man that was struck was not the perpetrator—rather an innocent bystander.

Wrestling in general is a very fan-frenzied sport. It attracts everyone from the structured businessman to the Average Joe. These folks are different in the outside world, but there is something about the sport that  puts them on the same level once they enter the arena.

So much so that they feed off each other's energy and occasionally incidents like this happen. Granted, this isn't the norm, but it isn't too outlandish either.

Problems like this have been known to arise from time to time.

In the end, I am certain Punk will have to issue some sort of apology and the WWE will probably be sued by the victim. Hopefully it's not too costly for their sake and can be settled swiftly.
