John Cena Puts CM Punk in Position to Be the Man

It does not matter how many times the conversation is had about CM Punk and John Cena, the outcome always leaves a sour taste in my mouth. I tend to believe that in some odd fashion, John Cena is setting up CM Punk's seat as the head on the WWE, but I'm usually the only one.

Sure, the WWE Universe should already be looking at him that way, but they are not.

Why?

Because John Cena is still front and center with the major storyline in the WWE. For example, Jericho-Punk was an amazing match, but Rock-Cena was a draw for three pay-per-views (WrestleMania 27, Survivor Series, and WrestleMania 28). Not to mention Cena's match headlined Elimination Chamber, Mania 28 and Extreme Rules, which is usually the job of the WWE Champion.

And even though Cena has yet another matchup that will most likely headline the Over the Limit pay-per-view this month, perhaps his storyline with John Laurinaitis, among other things, will lead to CM Punk's opportunity to Be the Man.

How?

Take a look back at Cena's storyline with Punk this past year. Cena willingly put Punk over and hasn't gone after the belt since. Is the WWE is giving Punk the room to be the champion without all of the pressure of the entire organization weighing down on him?

Also, John Cena was hurt in his match with Brock Lesnar at Extreme Rules, which lead to a heartfelt speech about possibly taking a break. He is now being chastised by John Laurinaitis and his henchmen Lord Tensai and Sakamoto. Is this WWE Creative's way of giving Cena a timely exit and pushing CM Punk into the forefront?

Lastly, Cena was featured on Friday's episode of Dream Machines on SYFY. He was wearing CM Punk's ice cream bar t-shirt. Could this be Cena's subliminal endorsement of Punk taking the reins?

So now a question for you fellow WWE Bleachers. Are the events discussed above reason enough to believe that John Cena may be trying to set CM Punk up for the head seat? Or is it highly unlikely to happen because Cena's run is far from over?
