Why John Cena deserves more respect than he's given

John Cena Can Actually Wrestle
Now, we all hear the same old things whenever Cena wins. "He only has five moves, he does the same thing every match," "He can't actually wrestle, he's really bad in the ring," etc., etc.

Incorrect.

Cena is actually a highly skilled worker. It's not his fault the way he's booked. Of course he's going to be booked in that way, he's the face of the company. His character is aimed fully at the Lil Jimmys.

Look at his recent match with CM Punk and also the matches he's had with Shawn Michaels, Edge and Triple H. Sure, Cena may not be the best, and he may not be able to put on an absolute classic without someone like CM Punk, but he is far, far               better than he is given credit for.

He Does Try to Get Younger Stars Over
Although Cena is criticised for rarely losing cleanly or putting guys over in the ring, again, this is not his fault. He's booked that way by the people above him.

What he does a very good job of, however, is bringing over guys backstage, in promos or in interviews, etc.

We've seen many videos of Cena being a huge supporter of Zack Ryder. He's appeared on Z! True Long Island Story a few times, he mentioned at the WrestleMania 27 preview about how much he rates him and even got Ryder onto Raw, as in the video above.

He also helped to get Wade Barrett some credibility when he lost to him and had to join the Nexus last year.

He Is Underrated on the Microphone
I hear a lot of people say Cena is average at best on the mic.

Incorrect.

Cena can and does cut very good promos. Sure, he has cut one or two that were a bit substandard. But then, what wrestler can say they've never cut one promo that was a bit dodgy? It happens.

I was watching Night of Champions 2010 last night, and Cena cut a highly entertaining promo while being interviewed by Josh Matthews. It prompted me to think afterwards, "I really enjoy his promos".

Also, his promos recently during the CM Punk angle have never failed to deliver either. He's earned a lot of respect from his work with Punk recently.

It doesn't help that his last three feuds have been with Punk, The Miz and The Rock, who are likely the best 3 mic workers since 2000.

He Does a Lot of Work for Charity and the Less Fortunate

There may not be a superstar in the WWE now that does more work for charities and the underprivileged than Cena. That by itself is highly commendable. Until recently I'd never been a big fan of Cena, but I always respected him for what he does in this field.

He's a big part of the Make a Wish foundation, he's donated a lot of his own money to various charities and he actively endorses the charities of other WWE Superstars, such as Shawn Michaels.

Anyone who is willing to use their celebrity status to really try to make a difference to the less fortunate earns my respect, any day.

He Is a Well-Respected Locker Room Leader and an Overall Nice Guy
Now we've all heard about superstars that are complete douche bags backstage, for example, Randy Orton and Batista.

But the general attitude towards Cena is completely different. I've heard from numerous sources on the internet that Cena is one of the friendliest and easily approachable guys in the locker room. When was the last time we heard about Cena getting somebody depushed, a la Kofi Kingston by Orton?

I always get the impression Cena is a genuinely nice guy, someone that I'd like to have a pint and chat about wrestling with at the local pub. And I genuinely don't think he'd be opposed to the idea.
