Paige would carry the gold over the next three months, knocking off established competitors such as Alicia Fox, Aksana and Naomi. At the same time, she struggled to make the impact that she did in NXT, thanks to WWE Creative's reluctance to expand upon the Anti-Diva character that helped make her one of the breakout stars in the company.
By the time she took to the ring on the June 30 episode of Raw, there were plenty of questions surrounding where the young woman would go next. What would she do? Was there any chance that her character could be rehabbed enough to make people care?
Then AJ returned, beat Paige for the title and ignited a story most expected would carry the Divas division in a post-WrestleMania WWE.
Rather than engaging in a heated rivalry right out of the gate, Paige and AJ began showing an awkward mutual respect for one another. With every compliment they directed at each other, however, it became more and more clear that the title loss affected Paige more than she was letting on. Behind every smile, there was a fury just waiting to be unleashed.
Whether she finally unleashes that fury at Battleground remains to be seen, but sooner or later, AJ will pay for ending what should have been the greatest run of Paige's young career.
Prediction: AJ Lee
The entire story is built on Paige eventually snapping and attacking AJ. That cannot happen if she beats AJ, regains the Divas Championship and has her happy ending. There would be no emphasis for the breakdown.
As a result, AJ will win Sunday night, retain the title and bring us one step closer to a Page heel turn.

Punk, AJ Married on Friday the 13th?

The two began dating in the Fall of 2013 and were engaged back in April. AJ was seen wearing what appeared to be an engagement ring on the March 31st episode of WWE RAW (Photo).
The new Mr. and Mrs. Brooks attended at a Chicago Cubs game on May 17th, where Punk confirmed they were engaged and would be getting married in June.
AJ Lee recently moved to Chicago and is taking time off from WWE for her wedding and honeymoon. She’s expected to return to action this summer.

Why is WWE giving AJ Lee the CM Punk treatment?

And AJ hasn't been seen or heard from on WWE television since.
While the "news" and rumor mill has it that she is on hiatus from the company, and her relationship with the "on sabbatical" CM Punk provides plenty of grist for said mill, the total radio silence in kayfabe is puzzling.
For one thing, it is common for defeated champions to have and often quickly exercise a rematch clause. Even though circumstances have kept Randy Orton from another go with Daniel Bryan for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, The Viper at least addressed the existence of his right to that match on the very Raw where AJ lost the butterfly belt.
AJ's defining character trait for her 290+ day run with that strap was that she was obsessed with possessing it. The Divas championship was the One Ring to her Gollum. An offhand mention by an announcer or interviewer that the loss of her beloved title caused Lee to snap, acknowledging that she is missing since her shocking defeat of April 7th, would fit right into the narrative we've been presented with since she claimed the title last summer.
A nod to their history would help build the first pay-per-view/"special event" title defense for the new champ, as questions of Tamina's loyalty to her boss are raised. It would be better than the attempt to recreate Snuka as the "most devastating Diva in history" in two weeks that we're getting now.
Knowing that the deposed champ is out there, plotting revenge with a rematch clause in her hip pocket, would help build to a big angle when or if AJ does return. If they really know or believe that she won't be back, mentioning that she was distraught over the loss doesn't hurt anything. Let's face it, it wouldn't be the first or last time WWE dropped a plot thread.
Do they want to keep the speculation about her exit being tied to Punk's going? It's no secret that the mere mention of Phil Brooks' alter ego is good for internet sites devoted to pro wrestling. Could WWE have decided that contributing to he growing mythology with their silence is also, ahem, best for business?

Will A.J. Lee Have a Great WWE Career?
As the most pushed WWE Diva in many years—not since Trish Stratus was all over the product in the early ‘00s has a female performer in the company been afforded such attention—there is a great deal of expectations on A.J's shoulders.
With her charisma and work ethic, as well as the support of management behind her, Lee—a lifelong wrestling fan—looks set to do great things in her WWE career.
But there are a few potential obstacles in her quest for success.
For one thing, some would argue she has already been overexposed and fans are fast growing weary of her heavy presence on Raw every week. She often feels forced into major angles and storylines, even when it makes little or no sense whatsoever: Come on, why would the strict, by-the-rules WWE Board of Directors ever allow such an obviously unstable woman to ever be Raw GM?
Why does Managing Supervisor Vickie insist on keeping A.J. on the show simply to “prove” she carried on a relationship with John Cena?
Doesn’t she have a show to run?
Vince McMahon and WWE seem stubbornly determined to push her, even at the expense of the overall product. Despite A.J’s likability and natural charm, fan resentment—and the backlash—towards her could prove a huge problem in her otherwise bright future.
Following on from this, it’s too soon to tell how this current storyline—in which Cena and A.J. may or may not be having an affair—will work out.
It could turn out to be entertaining, in a trashy soap-opera type of way. But the fact that the angle has conjured up comparisons with TNA’s awful Claire Lynch angle probably isn’t a good sign.
Yup: A.J. may soon have another bad storyline on her WWE resume.
Free of her corporate role, A.J. looks to have also moved back to the women’s division—even taking on Beth Phoenix last week. While she is obviously better suited to this—she was, all things considered, a pretty awful general manager—it remains to be seen how far she can go as a women’s wrestler.
For one thing, WWE have neglected their Divas Division for years now.
The girls all try, but they are hampered by an indifferent booking team and fan apathy. With this in mind, A.J. can’t really benefit from being associated with it in its current condition.
Another matter is that, for all her time spent on the indies and FCW, she’s still not that great of a wrestler, with her efforts paling in comparison to the work of supremely talented performers Eve or Natalya.
She can always get better, of course, but at this point it remains to be seen whether she is someone you could build a division around—assuming WWE ever do decide to do anything with it.
In summation, A.J. may look set to have a great WWE career—and maybe she will—but only if the company stops pushing her down everyone’s throats and placing her in one convoluted angle after another.
Giving her a decent women’s division to work with would also be a good start.

Questioning AJ's Position as Raw General Manager Only Leads to One Ending

WWE.com has announced that Vince McMahon will be appearing on Monday Night Raw to give a special "State of WWE Address." The article goes on to suggest that AJ Lee's position as general manager may be in trouble as a result.
This turn of events makes perfect sense in a storyline capacity, as AJ has been slowly losing control over the locker room for several weeks.
Yet the inevitable procedure of Vince giving AJ the dreaded vote of confidence, followed by uproar from her detractors, will only draw out a storyline that can only conclude in a new general manager taking control of Raw.
This is not a slight on AJ as a performer, as she has successfully juggled a complex gimmick with multiple personal relationships. Still, there is an inevitability that any general manager whose position is questioned by the WWE executive is on the way out.
It might seem like an exaggeration to conclude that a general manager's position becomes untenable once Vince, or any leading authority figure with real—rather than kayfabe—power, intervenes with a storyline, but history suggests this is the case.
The John Laurinaitis character was barely in the job when he had his first clash with WWE's board of directors. His tenure saw two feuds with top faces followed by the brief uniting of the Raw and SmackDown general manager roles, but his position was never assured at any point.
Rumour and counter-rumour ran riot across official platforms and fan sites, as people expected WWE to remove Laurinaitis from his role at any time.
The interim tag which hung over Laurinaitis' head for much of his time in the role was always going to add to the speculation, but the fact that Mr. McMahon and Triple H were always on his back gave extra impetuous to rumours of his imminent demise.
Eric Bischoff is arguably the most successful general manager of all time, but his clash with McMahon brought about the end of his authority and position on television.
Considering the fact that Bischoff managed to maintain his air of control alongside "Stone Cold" Steve Austin and Mick Foley, his downfall really shows how damaging it is for anyone playing an authority role on WWE television to interact with Vince McMahon or anyone with real power within the company.
One possible reason for this is that the WWE's move toward realism means that the audience fully understands that the general manager role is really a middle-management position. The general manager must do their bidding, and if those decisions are bad, it is the middle manager that pays the price.
Teddy Long is the one general manager that has survived being ousted, but this has always come at the hands of other performers, not senior managers.
It could be concluded from all of this that the WWE Universe does not accept the general manager post as a truly authoritative position. In fact, this might explain why several high-profile feuds that were supposed to pitch a character against his boss have fallen so flat in recent times.
What all this means for AJ is that her run as general manager has come to the beginning of the end. McMahon coming in over her head will strip any remaining power from her character, and the next few weeks will see her being used to promote other talent as her kayfabe world unravels around her.
The one bright spot for AJ is that her time as general manager may not be the end of her WWE career, like it has been for so many others.
Done properly, her maniacal gimmick can see her reappear in the women's division as a force to be reckoned with. She could also be placed in a managerial role (akin to the role Vickie Guerrero is now in).
Whatever the future holds for AJ, her time as general manager is coming to an end.
