CM Punk
Chris Jericho's attempt to get CM Punk to start drinking is certainly nothing new. I remember JBL handing CM Punk a glass of whiskey which he refused to drink. However, Chris Jericho has been more relentless than others in his efforts to get CM Punk off the wagon. In fact, I thought he had finally started drinking on the April 23 edition of Raw.
WWE Raw
Chris Jericho's latest attempt to get CM Punk to start drinking involved sending the straight edge superstar a liquor basket on Raw. He gave up the basket but kept one bottle of whiskey which he planned on "regifting" for Jericho. However, it looked like that bottle would serve a more sinister purpose as Raw wore on.
Sobriety test
Later on Raw, Alex Riley told Chris Jericho that CM Punk was drinking. Upon further inspection, the whiskey bottle was half empty and he was drinking out of a plastic cup. Chris Jericho then convinced John Laurinaitis to get CM Punk to take a field sobriety test on Raw. If he failed, he'd be stripped of the WWE title. CM Punk certainly looked to be three sheets to the wind as he stumbled to the ring on Raw. He was unable to say the alphabet backwards and he couldn't walk a straight line. The police declared CM Punk drunk and Teddy Long was about to strip him of the WWE belt.
Swerve
Just when I thought the WWE's straight edge superstar had become an alcoholic, CM Punk recited the alphabet backwards (almost) flawlessly and moonwalked the red line. CM Punk was still straight edge after all and Chris Jericho was forced back to the drawing board to get his WWE nemesis to start drinking.
Personal reflection
I have always been a huge CM Punk fan, long before it became fashionable. Yes, his famous Raw promo raised him to new heights in the WWE. But as someone who is also straight edge, I have always admired CM Punk's lifestyle. The thought of him drinking (even kayfabe) on WWE Raw would be devastating to his character.
WWE Extreme Rules
Personally, I can't see the WWE killing the straight edge angle. However, I am predicting problems for the WWE Champion at Extreme Rules. There has been a lot of talk on Raw about CM Punk's family being in attendance and that can't be a coincidence. I think one of his family members is in league with Chris Jericho and will cost him the belt. Whatever happens, let's hope CM Punk doesn't drown his sorrows Sunday night!
