The wrestling world continues to mourn the death of Andy Williams, best known to fans as The Butcher, following a medical emergency at an independent wrestling event in Pennsylvania.
Williams was 48 years old and had recently competed for Enjoy Wrestling. The promotion's co-owner, Kurt Hackimer, has now provided additional details regarding what happened after Williams' match.
According to Hackimer's statement, Williams collapsed at ringside after completing his match and hit his head on the floor. The promotion's medical personnel immediately responded and attended to him.
Williams was reportedly conscious but unresponsive when the initial medical response began. His condition then deteriorated rapidly, with his pulse fading as staff members attempted to stabilize him.
An ambulance was called, while doctors at the venue continued providing emergency medical assistance. CPR was administered, and an automated external defibrillator was also used with assistance from police who arrived at the scene.
The event was ultimately brought to an end and the audience was asked to leave while the emergency response continued.
Williams was transported to Allegheny General Hospital later that evening. Enjoy Wrestling was subsequently informed of his death shortly after midnight.
Hackimer said medical personnel at the event indicated that Williams' symptoms were consistent with a cardiac event. However, an official cause of death has not yet been determined, with the results of an autopsy expected to provide further information.
