Undertaker's 'Likely' WrestleMania 29 Opponent Revealed

Since April 2007, there has been one "Phenom" who has, for all intents and purposes, carried the WrestleMania brand for both WWE and its fans.

From his classic encounters with Batista, Edge, Shawn Michaels and Triple H—dating back to WrestleMania 23—Undertaker has arguably had not only the most anticipated match on the card, but the most riveting.

However, citing Undertaker's deteriorating physical condition, wrestling pundits have speculated that the illustrious streak would either end at 20 or, at the very least, be put on the backburner (source: PWInsider.com via WrestlingInc.com).

A recent report by the (subscribers-only) Wrestling Observer Newsletter, though, not only counters such a claim, but potentially reveals Undertaker's challenger at WrestleMania 29:

It looks right now like Undertaker is doing Mania this year. Punk would be his most likely opponent. Choices are limited. They need a strong heel and also someone capable of a great match. They have very few of the former but several of the latter.

Suffice it to say, there is no better antagonist than CM Punk, who is superior both in the ring and on the microphone.

The Chicago native has what it takes to appear as a formidable opponent, especially if the creative team allows him to be the unflappable, outspoken iconoclast of 2011.

Not to mention, a proposed bout between Punk and Undertaker could have unprecedented stakes on the line—the kind that truly come along once in a lifetime.

Assuming Punk were to retain the WWE championship at the Royal Rumble against The Rock, as has been reported, WrestleMania 29 would see two incredible streaks pitted against one another (source: F4Wonline.com via WrestlingInc.com).

In other words, one of two accomplishments would have to give: either Punk's 500-plus day reign or Undertaker's 20-0 record at WrestleMania.

The anticipation, suspense and eventual bout would perhaps go down as not only Undertaker's greatest WrestleMania showing, but Punk's defining performance.
