WWE SmackDown Aug/16/2011 taping spoilers

With SummerSlam in the books, and Randy Orton defeating Christian to win the WWE Heavyweight Championship, what's next for SmackDown's biggest superstars?

The taping for this Friday's SmackDown broadcast took place tonight, and we have the spoilers!

It was announced that there would be a 20-man battle royal to decide the next number one contender for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship—who came out on top?

Also, Ezekiel Jackson got his rematch against Cody Rhodes, who defeated Big Zeke to become the new WWE Intercontinental Champion last week on SmackDown.

Find out what other major WWE superstars from the SmackDown roster were in action tonight in the following slides, and let us know how YOU feel about the show!

Cody Rhodes Retains Against Ezekiel Jackson, Justin Gabriel Pins Tyson Kidd

The formerly dashing Cody Rhodes beat one of the WWE's biggest powerhouses, Ezekiel Jackson, last week, becoming the WWE Intercontinental Champion.

This week, Jackson got his rematch with Rhodes.

Although being one of the premier heels on SmackDown, Rhodes needed to use no heel tactics to retain his Intercontinental Championship against Jackson. Rhodes won cleanly after hitting the CrossRhodes.

This doesn't bode well for Jackson, as last week he was buried by Booker T in the booth, who gave Jackson's reign as champion a "C" rating. It's hard to disagree with Booker's rating.

In the next match, Justin Gabriel defeated Tyson Kidd via pinfall after hitting the 450 Splash. It's definitely nice to see some of the lesser known talents getting air time.

WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio Submits Daniel Bryan, Triple H Makes an Appearance

The new Undisputed WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio faced off against Daniel Bryan in a rematch of their battle of Money in the Bank winners last week on Smackdown.

This was a non-title affair, of course.

Del Rio had come to the ring to cut a promo, but was interrupted by Daniel Bryan who requested the rematch

Daniel Bryan came up short once again this week, being submitted with the Cross Armbreaker. From the sound of it, this was another very technical match.

After Del Rio's victory, Triple H came out to confront him, but Del Rio left, leaving his announcer Ricardo Rodriguez behind. Triple H hit Ricardo with a pedigree to finish the segment.

Whether or not the finish between Triple H and Ricardo is part of Friday's broadcast or not remains to be seen, as there are conflicting reports.

WWE Divas Champion Kelly Kelly Victorious in Tag Team Action

WWE Divas Champion Kelly Kelly made an appearance on SmackDown, teaming with AJ to defeat Alicia Fox and Natalya.

After Kelly Kelly finished off Alicia and got the pin, Natalya beat down Alicia for losing the match.

Will Beth Phoenix end up being a thorn in Kelly Kelly's side by WWE Night of Champions, or was she only a stepping stone aimed towards making Kelly Kelly come across as a legitimate Divas Champion?

Mark Henry Wins the 20-Man Battle Royal, Confronts Randy Orton

Randy Orton came out to join the commentary team for the 20-man battle royal that will decide the next number one contender for his WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

The word is that the battle royal was a fun match, with the final four coming down to Sheamus, Sin Cara, Wade Barrett, and Mark Henry. Some are saying that Sheamus and Sin Cara stole the show.

Sin Cara was the final elimination made by Mark Henry.

Orton stepped into the ring to have a stare down with Henry, leading Henry to attack Orton. Orton got the better of the brawl, and looked to hit the RKO, but Henry bailed, escaping.

Orton stood in the middle of the ring to end the show.

Monster heel Mark Henry is a viable challenger to Orton's title, but I expect that Sheamus may look to insert himself into the title picture, as he has unfinished business with the World's Strongest Man.
