Update on Seth Rollins Entrance and Allegiance

Two weeks ago, Seth Rollins did the unthinkable.

Just 24 hours after a whitewash victory over Evolution, he became Triple H’s plan B, turning on his brothers in arms in a vicious assault on Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns.

It was one of the more emphatic breakups in WWE history and one that has yielded plenty of questions about the future direction of the turncoat’s gimmick.

So far, The Shield has defined Rollins’ WWE career. His attire, his music and his all-around character have been governed by his position within the Hounds of Justice. Thus, his split from the faction would suggest that a complete rebranding is in the cards.

Though we haven't seen him ditch the riot gear yet, we have heard his entrance music change. But according to Figure Four Weekly, via Nick Paglino of WrestleZone, even that could be a mere temporary measure:

"According to The Figure Four Weekly Newsletter, Seth Rollins' new entrance music, which was heard on Smackdown Friday night, is a temporary place holder as WWE intends to give Rollins a new, permanent theme song in the near future. 

In related news, WWE is being careful not to reference Seth Rollins joining Evolution, as he has not, and current plans do not call for him to officially join the group."

For me, that is good news.

I can’t say I’m a fan of the new music Rollins debuted recently. Admittedly, it can often take a while for an entrance to get over, but this latest theme sounds too generic for a Superstar of his calibre.

Sure, it’s heavy, which means it’s fairly reflective of Rollins' real-life interests. But the intro doesn’t have that snappy impact entrance themes need—the stomping chords seem to drag somewhat—and the absence of lyrics makes it a little too samey.

There’s potential there, but given that the song is already a remix of his old NXT theme, it seems unlikely that the WWE will rehash a third version of Blues Saraceno’s “Flesh it Out."

Either way, let’s hope this “new, permanent theme song” Paglino mentioned is fitting of Rollins and his rising stock.

Speaking of Paglino, the second portion of his article refers to Rollins' allegiance to Evolution—or, more precisely, his lack of allegiance.

Again, I think this is a wise move from the WWE. The company has done a great job of pushing new talent over the past couple of years, with an emphasis on new developments rather than reincarnations of old ones.

Having Rollins join Evolution would likely be an intriguing angle, but it’s far better to give this guy a shot at making a new name for himself instead of riding on the past glories of Triple H, Orton, Batista and Ric Flair.

But for all of these plans, there’s still little mention of Rollins’ new attire. Personally, I think that’s arguably the most important factor of a WWE Superstar, and the WWE should look to have him drop The Shield’s gear as soon as possible.

Unless, of course, his departure from The Shield is only a temporary swerve.
