TNA Genesis 2013 Results and Twitter Reaction

In the first pay-per-view of the calender year, TNA's Genesis had just a little bit of everything.

There were some very large men, as Matt Morgan, Samoa Joe and Joseph Park—yes, Joseph Park—were all in action in different matches.

There were Knockouts, if looking at curvy women is your sort of thing.

There was the completion of a heel turn.

There were No. 1 contender matches.

There was a Sting appearance.

The heavyweight title was also on the line in a three-way match between Jeff Hardy, Bobby Roode and Austin Aries.

Let's take a look at how everything went down at the Impact Wrestling Zone in Orlando, Fla.

This one wasn't exactly the ideal way for Genesis to get started, as the action felt fairly bland and predictable.

In the end, Guerrero and Hernandez were able to land the double dropkick on the monster that is Matt Morgan, sending him stumbling over Ryan (who was behind him) to the outside.

That left Ryan as the victim to a huge slam from Hernandez and a frog splash and pin from Guerrero.

As Guerrero and Hernandez celebrated the defense of their tag team titles, Morgan berated his partner inside the ring.

Mr. Anderson defeats Samoa Joe

This is more like it.

Joe was supposedly sick, but we were treated to a surprise match, and anytime you can see him in a match, you take it.

Why? Because he does things like this (via Impact Wrestling):

Joe has an impressive combination of size, technical skills and athleticism, and it's always fun to watch him work in the ring.

However, after dominating most of the match, The Samoan Submission Machine was distracted by a member of Aces and Eights, which let Anderson hit the Mic Check for the win.

It was a fairly underwhelming end to an entertaining battle.

Christian York defeats Kenny King

When York landed the pin on King following an exciting, up-tempo match to earn a shot at Rob Van Dam, most fans were fairly disappointed, as "The Pretty Boy Pitbull" is the more impressive wrestler.

However, after York grabbed the win, King hit him with a monstrous cheap shot, completing his heel turn. While most didn't want to see King lose, it's clear that TNA is developing him, albeit at a slow pace.

York got off to a slow start thanks to King's recent slam, but he eventually fought through the pain and got this championship match underway.

Despite being in the ring for so long, York still managed to work well with RVD to put on a heck of a match.

In the end, the champion hit the five-star frog splash and landed the pin to retain his X-Division title, but he applauded York afterward for the youngster's effort.

Once again, this probably wasn't the result everyone wanted to see from the set of matches, but it was a good showing from all three men involved.

Devon defeats Joseph Park

If you were looking for a match with a lot of actual, you know, wrestling, than this one wasn't probably for you.

However, if you were looking for more development of Joseph Park's, um, interesting character, then you were rewarded.

After what seemed liked hours of pretty much nothing happening between the two, the former lawyer was given a bloody nose, which, of course, set off his crazy side. He began to dominate Devon and had him set up for a choke slam.

But Park "snapped out of it" just in time for Devon to roll him up for the pin.

We're getting closer to Park's full transformation, but it didn't happen during his first professional match.

Velvet Sky wins Knockouts Gauntlet Match

Gail Kim did most of the work, but when it was all said and done, Velvet Sky left Genesis with a shot at Knockouts champ Tara.

Kim eliminated Miss Tessmacher, ODB and Mickie James to start what turned out to be an extremely solid match with lots of good wrestling. This all happened before Sky entered the ring and landed her finishing move for the win.

If TNA has one advantage over that other wrestling company, it's the overall skills of the women inside the ring.

Christopher Daniels defeats James Storm

This one went on a little long, but both wrestlers have a terrific combination of strength and athletic ability, and as a result, they showcased lots of entertaining wrestling inside the ring.

After a slew of high-flying moves from each side, Storm was forced to hit Kazarian with the Last Call as "The K-A-Z" was attempting to interfere, which let Daniels land a big move and the rope-aided pin.

Daniels now will get a shot at the World Heavyweight Championship on January 24.

Sting defeats D.O.C

Say what you want about Sting, but the man still puts on quite an effort for a 53-year-old.

Still, though, there was only so much the Hall of Famer could do, and it quickly became painfully clear that he had lost a few steps.

After some slow action, he landed a few decent moves and was able to get the pinfall following the classic Stinger Splash.

Aces and Eights made its way out to the ring afterward, but Bully Ray came to Sting's rescue, chasing the five men back into the crowd with the help of a tiny chain.

Alright, then.


Jeff Hardy (c) defeats Austin Aries and Bobby Roode

This match was simply on a different level.

Aries and Roode began by teaming up to take on the current champ, but that didn't stop Hardy from doing what he always does: land some extraordinary high-wire moves that get the crowd off its feet in an instant.

While there were several "wow" moments, the best arguably came when Hardy hit Aries (who was on top of Roode's shoulders at the time) with a massive Whisper in the Wind from the top ropes, which took both opponents out.

Eventually, Roode and Aries' partnership came to an end, and after they put together several good moments in the ring against each other, Hardy re-entered the ring (after being knocked out earlier) and assisted Aries with a pin to eliminate Roode.

Moments later, Hardy landed a huge Twist of Fate and Swanton Bomb on Aries to pick up the win and finish off the incredible match.

Oh how the mighty have quickly fallen.
The same, however, can't be said about Samoa Joe. The big man continually impresses, and he drew this rave review from WrestleEnigma.com:

Most fans were just as disappointed with Kenny King's loss, but this wrestling fan was understandably encouraged with his progress:

Joseph Park may have lost to Devon, but he found the energy to let the Twitter world know how he was feeling:

If there was one thing everyone was agreeing on, it was about how brilliant Christopher Daniels was on the mic (via Jay Michael):

To be fair, it's hard to do wrong when you are smart enough to enjoy a good appletini, as Daniels was.
