Undertaker Confirms WrestleMania Status and Who He Won't Face

Well it's the holiday season, which means it's speculation time for fans of The Undertaker.

In fact, for the past four years, fans have been left speculating whether or not The Undertaker will be partaking in WrestleMania. Let's face it, his status for 2012's annual event was still being pondered in February.

Now, it appears we may have an answer sooner than we expected as PWInsider.com (via WrestleZone.com) reports:

The Undertaker recently reached out to WWE and notified them that he wants to compete at WrestleMania 29. He told officials that he is currently training for a return, and he reportedly pitched an opponent for the big PPV.

While it is unknown who The Undertaker has requested to work with at the event, it's being said that Ryback and Triple H are not amongst the names.

Now, the only question that remains is who will "The Phenom" face at "The Grandaddy of Them All"?

Well, I gotta say, I am grateful that we won't be witnessing another Taker-Triple H match. I am also happy to see that Ryback is not on the short list. Don't get me wrong, Ryback has a ton of potential, but is he big enough of a name to challenge "The Streak"?

Right now, I would have to say no.

However, I do have to wonder who Taker pitched? Ultimately, it would seem to make sense to have a rising future star beat the legendary "Streak." This would not only solidify the chosen one's career, but it would give them a "WrestleMania moment" that would force them to raise the bar. Unfortunately, I feel, there really isn't any future star on the roster that would be worthy of this distinction.

Essentially, every main-eventer has been in the game long enough to establish themselves and really does not need the rub that taking "The Streak" would give them. Right now, I am going to contradict myself a bit; if Ryback is going to be the future, wouldn't it make sense to have him challenge for the coveted record?

Let's face it, the WWE went from making Ryback look invincible to now displaying his weaknesses. If they truly believe he has potential, putting him in the ring against "The Dead Man" at WrestleMania 29 would have been the best way to prove it.

In the end, I can only speculate a handful of people that 'Taker would have pitched. Those people are The Rock, John Cena, CM Punk, Sting and maybe Brock Lesnar. Personally, I can't imagine him picking any other stars for such a grand stage. However, stranger things have happened in the WWE, so I guess anyone is possible.
